Last week faizod attended the opening of an interdisciplinary Blockchain institute at the Mittweida University of Applied Sciences. The institute, called the Blockchain Competence Center Mittweida, will draw on faizod’s Blockchain expertise for its growth and further development. The University will also play a further forerunning role in the future of Blockchain by offering a Master’s program in Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies, beginning in 2018.

Blockchain emerges as a multi-sector technology

Numerous partners including scientists from various disciplines and representatives from companies such as Volksbank Mittweida eG, msg systems ag, and T-Systems came together to found the institute.

Partners toast to new horizons for Blockchain research and development made possible by the institute.

In 2008 Bitcoin emerged as the first application of Blockchain and many experts are now suggesting that Blockchain could indeed be disruptive in many sectors. It’s not just about currency and payment systems anymore, but rather Blockchain is making an entrance in supply chain, notary functions, and business communications, to name a few.

An interdisciplinary approach

The BCCM is an institute with competencies in mathematics, computer science, engineering, economics, and law. It will not only seek to explore possibilities for implementing Blockchain, but also hopes to tackle some of the challenges with the new technology. Because of the elimination of third parties made possible by Blockchain, there are no existing guidelines for a space that is virtually right-free.

Professors from various disciplines gave input at the opening event, sharing their thoughts on Blockchain and other distributed ledger technologies.

The institute is a contact and development partner for companies in the financial and economic sectors, as well as for interested parties in politics and the public sector. In addition to the formal working groups, a number of student projects regarding Blockchain are also taking place at the university to support the institute.

Christina Seifert represented faizod at the event.
