Penske joins BiTA to explore Blockchain in shipping

This week shipping giant Penske announced that they have joined the Blockchain in Trucking Alliance (BiTA). Several weeks ago UPS announced their decision to join the alliance (read more here), which was formed last year. BiTA is made up of a number of logistics companies exploring the potential for Blockchain in the industry, as well as promoting education about the technology in the transportation industry.

Blockchain an increasing topic of interest in shipping

Penske plans to run a Blockchain pilot later this year and reports: “We’ve joined BiTA to take part in better understanding the benefits of Blockchain for our customers and to be a part of crafting the standard framework in the development and implementation of Blockchain technology.” /1/

Blockchain is increasingly becoming a topic of interest in shipping and logistics and has already made its way in to conversation about supply chain. Storing data on a Blockchain means transparency for not just the shipping company, but also for those sending items and those receiving them.
